Celebrating a Decade of Mentorship and Judging at Big Bang!

It’s been an amazing 10 incredible years since I started mentoring and judging at the Big Bang! business competition, organized by the UC Davis Mike and Renée Child Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This prestigious event has been a launchpad for future success stories, empowering aspiring entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into reality.

With over $100,000 awarded annually and thousands of competitors, Big Bang! has become a launchpad for many success stories. My experience as a mentor and judge has been truly enriching, thanks to the ingenious teams I’ve had the chance to work with. I’ve learned a lot from these young innovators and their fresh perspectives on agriculture and science. Their creativity, determination, and engineering approach to problem-solving are truly impressive.

From developing simulation tools for mastering vet care to creating innovative food products and medical devices, the competition has consistently pushed the boundaries of what’s possible. Kudos to the winners, including Nexa Labs from California Institute of Technology and Vet Scientia, who took home the Animal Health + Industry Award.

A huge thank you to the UC Davis Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship for organizing this remarkable event and to all the mentors and judges who have contributed to its success over the years. Here’s to many more years of fostering innovation and entrepreneurship!
